I grew up in Colombia, in between Bogotá and a small coffee farm in Sasaima. I went to college at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá and majored in Biology and Microbiology. I worked in environmental education around Colombia for a few years and then moved to Austin Texas for graduate school at UT Austin. I completed a Postdoc at Florida State University before joining the Humboldt Biological Sciences Department. My favorite microbe is Vibrio sp.

Research:

Interactions between microbial communities and their hosts. In my lab, we focus on research questions related to microbial metacommunity dynamics, ecosystem function and eco-evolutionary dynamics.
